About the Artist

"The first formal art classes I took were in drawing. I studied life drawing at night during my college years. The discipline and practice required in drawing the human figure was in order to capture the essence
of the model’s form and pose. This was my perspective and I enjoyed the process.

I attended The Art Students League for many years and took classes with Knox Martin, my mentor and and long time teacher (50years) at The League. There was always an opportunity in his studio to either draw or paint from the model or else work on a painting of our choice. I did both.

My minimal line drawings are derived from the study of capturing the essence of a model’s quick and various poses. My drawings done outside of a studio environment have been done on the spot. Whether I saw a bird, a horse, or a cottage, if it caught my eye, I drew it, using very few lines. Each image is a sketch of something that I liked for its charm or form. They are images which stood out to me, and lent themselves to the recording of a few lines, referred to as minimal line drawings.

There’s beauty all around us and there’s a way to capture what calls to you in an expression and medium of your choice.
My muse in drawing is about form and gesture; my muse in painting is color, nature
and an expressionistic approach!!!!!"
